Keith Haring, American Artist (1958–1990)
Haring was pure energy in graphic form. With bold lines, vibrant color, and instantly recognizable figures, he turned the visual language of the 1980s into something radical, joyful, and defiantly public. His art danced across subway walls, club flyers, T-shirts, and murals—with a style that made activism feel immediate and human.
By the end of the decade, his work had gone from the streets of New York to galleries around the world. His figures were symbols of protest and activism around Apartheid, the AIDS crisis and LGBTQ causes.
So while the LEGO tribute is a fun celebration, I did want to acknowledge that Haring used his voice and the medium of art to champion the causes and the social change he was so fiercely passionate about.
